Profile:
DTU (Denmark
Technical University) was founded in 1829 and is currrently the
leading centre of education and research in engineering. There
are around 9,500 students, researchers, staff (it's not a lot,
compared to the size of Copenhagen and the importance of the school).
Its annual budget is DKK 1.2 billion (about € 164 million,
it's so much !!).
The campus is situated in the suburb, 10 km from Copenhagen (in
Lyngby), and 5 km from the sea. It is easy to go because there
are a lot of busses stopped there.
International
collaboration:
DTU have agreements with a lot of universities all over the world,
which allow it to receive about 400 foreign students and to send
300 Danish people abroad. A big part of the courses are taught
in english.
Academic
programme:
DTU offers 3-year programme (bachelor) and 5-year programme (MASTER)
in engineering. There are a lot of specializations : mécanics,
Biotechnology, civil engineering, Microelectronics, Chemistry,
Production, Informatics et mathematics (which I am studying),
Telecommunications, Environment, acoustics,...
Buildings :
There is a lot of buildings in the campus, numbered from 101 to
451 (which is about 100 buildings).
In the main building (101), there are a lot of facilities for
students : library (DTV), cafétéria, a
canteen, a bar (Cellar Bar or S-Huset), a fitness
room, two sport facilities, a bookshop, an international office,
accomodation office (PF office), changing room, showers, sauna,...
In the other buildings, there are some computers room (databars),
which allow us to work and go to internet. There are some amphitheatres
scattered everywhere. These are not very big (about 100 seats).
The building are divided into specializations so that teachers
work together and that students are not obliged to traverse across
all campus to go to the classroom.
Next to the university, there are some playgrounds (foot, rugby,
basket,...) and a swimming pool.
